Project 1:
MODELLING OF AN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN
This project required us to select a building from available resources and gather information regarding it's dimensions and materiality. I chose to model out my Architecture Design Studio 2 retreat house. Once that was done, we were to create a complete model of the design without using materials and lighting. We were also required to document our process in the form of a blog (link above). Through this assignment, I was exposed to the functions of 3DS Max as well as Rhinoceros. I chose to use Rhinoceros as a modelling platform because it was more user family in my opinion. I am also able to generate 3D models of buildings using their AUTOCAD drawings.
This module is basically an introduction to computer generated 3D drawings. We explored different softwares such as Rhinoceros, 3DS Max and AUTOCAD to generate these models. This module also aimed to develop our technological skills in using 3DS Max while exploring the modelling applications of Rhinoceros. We were also introduced to the concept and applications of architectural visualisation as a design and communication tool. Through this module, I was able to execture and implement 3DS Max and Rhinoceros as a design tool to create and modify 3D forms and surfaces. I am also able to produce photorealistic renderings of a design through the use of appropriate material, lighting, cameras and context. I am also aware of the measures taken after post-production to enhance these renderings. FInally, I am able to create an animation showing the spaces of the design. Project 2:
STILL RENDERING
Using the same model from Project 1, we were required to add in materials, lights, cameras and site context for our final rendering which were divided into two parts: exterior and interior rendering. Through this assignment, I was able to produce photorealistic renderings and use post production tools such as Adobe Photoshop to enhance the visual outcome of the rendering. I was also exposed to the functions of 3DS Max in terms of setting up cameras and adding materials and lighting.
Project :
ANIMATION OF THE 3D SCENE
Using the 3D scene we generated in Project 2, we were required to set up camera paths for animation and stich them together to create a video. Through this assignment, I've learned not to underestimate the time taken for a rendering to finish. I am also aware of how to set up camera paths in 3DS Max. With this assignment, I am more comfortable with 3DS Max as I have gotten used to the interface and functions already.
