This module aims to create an awareness and understanding of the principles of the service systems in a building and integrate the basic requirements in a schematic design stage. Besides that, it aims to introduce us to various building service systems that are available and how to work within the limitation of choices. Finally, it aims to prepare us to adopt, apply and integrate these requirements in our design. Through this module, I am able to identify the relevant information in relation to water supply systems, waste disposal, mechanical air-conditioning, fire safety and transportation systems. I am also able to describe the planning processes of integrating the service systems during a building's design phase. I am also able to explain the principles, systems, space requirements and implications and regulations of the related service systems.

Project 1:
Case Study and Documentation of
Building Services Systems
In groups of 5 to 6 students, we were required to choose a building of a minimum 4 storey height, we chose Wisma LJT in Taman Melawati, and perform an in-depth study and analysis of the mechanical ventilation and air-conditioning system, electrical supply system, mechanical transportation system and the fire protection system. These findings would then have to be documented and presented in a report as well as an A2 project summary board. We would have to evaluate our understanding of these systems through the report as well. Through this assignment, I am now able to identify and understand the relevant information needed in relation to the systems. Besides that, I am now able to understand and explain how these services function throughout a building and identify their related spaces and regulations.
Project 2:
Application of Building Services
Individually, we were required to integrate building services in the retreat house design in our Architecture Design Studio 2. These services are the electrical supply system, cold and hot water supply system, sewerage and sanitary system and drainage system. We were then required to produce the appropriate drawings and diagrams that include the specifications, symbols and images to describe the planning and installation of these services. It was to be presented on 3 A2 boards. Through this assignment, I am able to integrate building services in a residential level building. I am also able to identify the regulations and requirements needed for the installation of a specific system. Besides that, I am able to plan out the spaces required for these systems and am able to identify the symbols, and diagrams used for these systems.
