Project 1:
Experiencing Construction: Experiencing, Documenting and Analysing
[Construction Process]

In a group, we were required to select a maximum of three on going construction sites which covers most of the subject topics covered throughout our Building Construction 1 syllabus. We were limited to only medium or low rise buildings with a maximum of 4 storeys. Once the sites were selected, we were to identify the different types of builsing elements and its construction porcesses, details and materials. Once all the relevant materials were collected, we were to produce a detailed report on these construction elements through the use of visual images, annotated sketches and cited informations.

This was a very interesting assignment to undergo as it was my first time analysing and documenting a construction sites. This enabled me to understand the basic principles and procedures of the construction process through real life exposure. My documentation skills have also improved as I had to skim through the appropriate information and lay them out in a systematic and orderly manner. I am now able to understand and explain construction elements and their components and I also understnad the different construction technologes used on local construction sites. Through this assignment, I was also exposed to different types of construction projects and their specifications.

Building Construction 1

This module aims to help us develop an understanding of the structural elements in construction as well as its application in the building industry. It is also to enable us to have a comprehensive understnading and knowledge of buildabitlity and awareness of how buildings are developed responding to practical considerations involved in he construction process. After undergoing this module, I am able to define the applications of building components in real life examples while inferring the relationships between the buildings and their sites. Besides that, I am able to explain the complete constructional procedures of various building components and compare their materials. Through this module, I am also able to select appropriate structural elements and apply them in my design,

Project 2:
Integrated Construction Detailing and Drawings

This was an individual assignment in which our task was to apply the knowledge that we have acquired from our previous assignment. Emphasizing on proposing details for our Architecture Design Studio 2 final project building through sections, structural details and architectural details. We were to identify and propose three details while providing the necesarry plans, sections and elevations. The three details were to cover roof, superstructures and foundation. All the drawings would have to be handrawn and the appropriate dimensions, symbols and specifications would have to be provided to show that we understand the design. We were to then layout these details in an A2 presentation board.

Through this assignment, I was able to understand the structural detailing of my design and select a suitable one for my retreat home. I was also able to develop a comprehensive understanding of buildability in relation to my site context and user. My technical drawing skills have also improved as I manually prepared all my detailed drawings. My ability to layout a presentation board systematically has also improved to show the relationship between the details and the design. This assignment allowed me to further research into the different types of structural detailing in buildings thus expanding my knowledge building construction.
